Few places let you walk among wild primates that exist nowhere else on earth. The Simien Mountains are home to troops of Gelada baboons found only in this corner of Ethiopia, often grazing calmly just metres from the trekking trails. Above 3,000 metres, the landscape opens into dramatic cliff-edge escarpments where the rare Walia ibex can be spotted along the rock faces. Few trekking destinations anywhere in Africa combine this density of rare wildlife with scenery this consistently spectacular.

This 7-day trip is the introductory version of our Simien Mountains trek — three days of walking as far as Geech, without the multi-day push to the summit of Ras Dashen. Ideal for travellers who want real time in the Simien Mountains without committing to the full 10-day expedition.
This 14-day tour uses domestic flights to combine two of Ethiopia's signature experiences that most visitors have to choose between: the northern historic circuit and the tribal cultures of the Omo Valley, with a relaxed stop at Lake Langano along the way.
A shorter version of the northern historic circuit — Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar, Gondar, and Lalibela — using the same real hotels and content style as Best of Ethiopia's first week.
The park is reached via Gondar, with a scenic drive leading into the trekking areas.
No prior experience is required, but a reasonable level of fitness is recommended given the altitude and multi-day trekking involved.
