Mago National Park
Where Savanna Wildlife and Tribal Cultures Meet
Mago National Park
Located about 800km south of Addis Ababa and separated by the Omo River, Mago National Park was established for the conservation of its large numbers of savanna wildlife, particularly African Buffalo, Giraffe, and Elephant. The park's diverse landscape consists of predominantly patchy grasslands, woodland, bushland, and riverine forests. It is considered the best place in the region to see larger savanna mammals, with major wildlife species including Burchell's Zebra, Greater Kudu, Lelwel Hartebeest, Tiang, and many others. The park is also famous for being the traditional home of several Omo Valley tribes. Visiting the colorful lifestyles of the Hammer, Mursi, Karo, and Bena people who live within or just outside the park boundaries gives a rewarding stay, especially when a visit coincides with a local market day.
