Drive to the village of Kuswarad to collect local Afar guides, then trek roughly 4-5 hours to the rim of Erta Ale, one of the few volcanoes on Earth with a permanent lava lake. Reach the summit by sunset and camp on the crater rim, watching the lava glow and churn through the night.
Descend from the crater at dawn, before the day's heat sets in, and drive back to Semera. Fly back to Addis Ababa in the afternoon, wrapping up your Danakil expedition.
